Live in Home Care involves hiring an individual, either a caregiver or another family member, to assist the elderly in their own home. Job requirements will vary, depending on the agency that is hiring, but most jobs will require previous caring for a loved one in a nursing home, doctor's office or other medical environment. Part of the training process will include determining how someone may receive twenty-four hour home care. A typical home attendant will be required to take a daily twenty-four hour family schedule, which consists of their working eight hours for seven days of a week. When someone receives this type of schedule, they are expected to be able to return to work at any time, including overnight or night shifts. If the agency is a traditional employment agency, someone may receive more benefits in exchange for the extra time spent at home. For example, a cashier will receive more money per hour when a person works longer shifts. 

Some agencies prefer to hire individuals who already have some experience in the position. In this situation, the employee may provide a trial period to someone who is interested in the position. The person may provide twenty-four hour home care with the understanding that they will receive full-time employment upon the completion of the trial period.
